UWS Lecturer - Best in Australia
Having spent over twenty five years helping students unlock the mysteries of chemistry, UWS Professor Roy Tasker has been named the Prime Minister's Australian University Teacher of the Year.
The ALTC's Awards for University Teaching recognises university teachers across the country that have made an outstanding contribution to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in higher education, and is the largest and most prestigious award ceremony of its kind in the sector.
Roy says he feels immensely proud and privileged to be the recipient of such a prestigious award. I owe this award to the more than 7500 students I have had the delight to teach since I have been here at UWS, and who have taught me so much about learning chemistry, he said.
Students are well advised not to expect the traditional when they attend one of Roys lectures.
Roy uses a captivating mix of simulation and animation technology to help his students bridge the gap between the observable world and the invisible world of molecules.
Roy goes out of his way to make chemistry visual and understandable, according to Bachelor of Natural Sciences student Michelle Mak. He is an awesome teacher and I'm not surprised at all that his efforts have been honoured.
