Migration Changes for Trade Qualifications
The Government has recently announced some changes to migration assessment that may affect international students who are studying trade qualifications such as Cookery and Hairdressing.
The key changes are:
A job-readiness test will be introduced for onshore skilled applicants, meaning students may need to pass a practical assessment test.
The English language requirement for trades occupation will increase to IELTS 6 from 1 July 2009 for offshore applicants and 1 January 2010 for onshore applicants
There will be fewer visas granted to trade level occupations
For those who cannot achieve IELTS 6.0 or find a job, it is probably the time to stop and revise your study plan. If you want to know more about the specific impact on your application for General Skilled Migration, please feel free to contact ACIC's migration agent.
